අස්වැන්න

Overview

අස්වැන්න (Aswenna) is the Sinhala word for harvest; the product is a single hub for Sri Lankan farmers who otherwise bounce between selling, pest news, weather, and export leads. I worked on it as a CryptX 1.0 (University of Sri Jayewardenepura) hackathon build. We reached the finals. The home view is meant to answer “what should I do today?” — weather, pest risk, market prices, and open bids — without five separate apps.

Problem

Growing well is not the same as selling well. Produce still moves through middlemen and delayed information. Input shops, auction prices, and crop-risk rumours live in different channels. Farmers needed a place that combines a market with advisory: list a harvest, see bids, buy seed and fertilizer, and get an alert before a pest wave hits the next village.

What I built

I helped shape a React front end with a Node.js API and MongoDB, covering:

• An e-market where farmers list produce and run auctions instead of taking the first offer
• A bids dashboard so incoming offers are visible, not buried in chat
• An inputs marketplace for tools, seed, fertilizer, and machinery with vendor context
• Pest and “trouble” alerts aimed at nearby farmers, not a national news ticker
• Weather for planting and harvest timing
• An AI chat assistant for crop-care and market questions when an agronomist is not on the phone
• Supporting product ideas we designed into the same surface: export listings, a farmer–buyer forum, language support for village users, reviews, a verified-farmer path, and a delivery/distribution story

Hackathon scope is not a nationwide rollout. I describe the product we designed and demoed, not farm-adoption numbers I do not have.

Impact

CryptX 1.0 selected Aswenna as a finalist for the agriculture brief. For the portfolio it is proof I can put marketplace, alerts, and an AI assistant in one operations product rather than a toy prompt box. The Sri Lanka-first framing (language, export, village connectivity) is the point.
